Performance Experience
As a Performer
William began taking piano lessons when he was eight years old. His first teacher was Kay Davidson, who was the organist and part-time choir director at the church William grew up in. Mrs. Davidson used the John Thompson Method of piano pedagogy and William used this method for the next ten years of his private lessons. His first public performance was in the spring of 1996 at his first recital. For the next few years, William would occasionally perform a piece during his local church services in addition to his yearly recitals.
After William started college at Clarion University of Pennsylvania, he began studying with Dr. Paula Amrod. William's repertoire would grow to include pieces from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and the 20th Century Periods which helped to add to his musical understanding that he developed playing the contemporary pieces in high school. The high point of William's college performances was his Senior Recital which was performed in October of 2008. His repertoire for this recital included pieces from all four classical periods. William would frequently return to accompany his high school choir and he also became one of the usual accompanists for the music department, accompanying performers for the weekly seminars that were held and for their juries that took place every semester.
William has performed on either keyboard or piano for many of the show choir pits at Clarion University as well as every show that he had the privilege of music directing. He has played for weddings, his home town "Light-Up Night," funerals, local club meetings, and currently is the pianist for both the First Lutheran and United Methodist Churches in Rural Valley.
Along with playing the piano, William can also play the trumpet and hopes to one day teach himself guitar and become more proficient on the violin.
