For the summers of 2008-2011, William served as music director for the summer stock season of Clarion University of Pennsylvania, now known as PennWest Clarion. The Clarion University Summer Musical Theatre Festival was a chance for students, former students, and community members to showcase their talents to the area surrounding the Clarion area. Each show had a week's run at the University, and then the entire show was moved to the Cook Forest Sawmill Theatre where it was performed for another two weeks. Due to this schedule, William was always in rehearsal for one show and in production for the previous show simultaneously.

For the summer of 2008, William worked with veteran music director, Dennis Davenport, as he learned the ways of the theatre, having never worked in it before. The following summer, he worked with fellow music education student Bryan Teeters before finally taking over as sole music director in 2010. William's duties as music director were to attend and accompany auditions to help cast the shows, teach and rehearse all of the music with the entire cast and individuals as needed, assemble the pit orchestra for each show, rehearse the pit, and finally put the cast and pit together. He also played piano and keyboard as well as musically directed the pit and ensemble for every show.

William also had the opportunity to take part in a few of the shows he worked on. In CUP's 2009 production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, he had the chance to play the role of Pharaoh while also music directing. While this role is usually played in an Elvis style, the production director changed it to that of Jerry Lee Lewis so that William could showcase his talent on the piano. He also was in costume for the 2010 production of The Pirates of Penzance and had the chance to interact with the actors and his fellow pit members during the show. Finally, for the 2011 production of Snoopy!!!, he was dressed as the piano playing Peanuts character Schroeder, an idea added by the production director.

Along with music directing, William also had the opportunity to play in two pit orchestras and take a few theatre classes during his studies at Clarion University.
