Studio Policies
CALENDAR
A calendar of studio events, holidays and non-lesson weeks will be provided. Please refer to this calendar for important studio dates.
SWAP LIST AND MAKE-UP LESSONS
Understanding that students sometimes have conflicts, and at the same time realizing the importance of attending lessons faithfully, a studio swap list will be provided. Student and parent/guardian names, lesson times, and phone numbers will be included. If a swap is agreed upon, the teacher must be notified in advance. If you would like to be included on the swap list, please check the appropriate box on the signature page.
Each student is allowed one make-up lesson every two months for sudden extreme weather conditions or for illness. Please see the studio calendar for the weeks when these will be available. For other conflicts, please use the swap list. Make-up lessons can be a normal lesson or focus on theory or performance depending on when they are.
STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES
You are learning how to play a musical instrument along with music history, theory, and the technical needs of the instrument. This will require much time and commitment.
Please bring the following materials to your lessons:
· Assignment book
· All books currently in use
· Any handouts that were assigned
Practice Expectations
· Maintain practice time at a daily minimum arranged by me
· Give practice time the same priority as homework
· Schedule practice at a regular time every day
· Avoid distractions when practicing
· Review your assignment book each day to ensure you are completing all tasks
Proper Hygiene, Proper Dress, and Proper Studio Use
· Keep fingernails short, as long nails impeded good hand position
· Keep hands clean and germ-free out of respect for the other students. Hand sanitizer is available in the studio
· Avoid wearing immodest clothing
· Remember to remove wet boots/shoes at the door.
INVOLVEMENT OF PARENTS OR GUARDIANS
The adult’s most important role is to listen with enthusiasm and offer encouragement.
Parents or guardians should sit down with the student at least once a week to see that all assignments are practiced and to offer support.
The parent’s or guardian’s responsibilities include bringing the student to lessons on time and picking them up on time.
Parents or guardians should provide a well-tuned piano if an acoustic piano is used. If an electronic keyboard is used, the largest size possible should be purchased. This would be 61, 76, or ideally 88 keys. Weighted keys would be preferrable but not a requirement. A quiet place to practice should also be provided.
TERMINATION OF LESSONS
The teacher reserves the right to terminate a student's lessons for the following infractions:
Inappropriate behavior toward the teacher on the part of the student or the student's parents
Failure to pay tuition
Failure to provide notification for more than ten (10) missed lessons.
DISCONTINUED LESSONS
If you wish to discontinue your child's lessons and withdraw from the studio, you must give the teacher notice at least two weeks in advance. No refunds will be issued for any lessons previously paid for in the month of student withdrawal.
